Sara C. Pryor

Biographical information:

Professor Sara C Pryor received her doctoral degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of East Anglia and then served as a Post Doctoral Fellow at the University of British Columbia. She obtained her first faculty appointment at Indiana University where she obtained the rank of Provost’s Professor and then joined Cornell University’s Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences in 2014 as Professor of Atmospheric Science. Professor Pryor is also an adjunct Professor at the Danish Technical University.
Professor Pryor is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Meteorological Society, is author of over 250 journal articles, editor of two books and has served in multiple capacities for organizations such as the World Climate Research Programme, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the US National Climate Assessment and the International Energy Agency.
Professor Pryor is part of a new generation of scientists who are conducting research across traditional disciplinary boundaries and engaging in grand challenges using a wide suite of big data analytics, including machine learning tools, on experimental data collected by her group and high-resolution, high-fidelity atmospheric simulations. Professor Pryor’s research is funded by a range of agencies including the U.S Department of Energy, NASA and NSF, and focusses on reducing uncertainty in regional climate projections via improved understanding of aerosol forcing and other drivers of climate variability, extreme event characterization and causality analyses, and removing bottlenecks to expansion of renewable energy technologies.
